Whirlwind of a Weekend

Cheerios, our last pregnant doe gave birth today. She had twins this time, both boys. She was such a good mommy– I checked on her around 2pm with no apparent activity. Dave found her at 4:30 in the pasture with 2 completely dried off babies. Much different than last year’s long, drawn out birth that we ended up assisting in (pulling with all my might) to deliver the humongous single she had. Twins are so much easier. On to the pictures….

Busy Day–Toffee Triples!!

After all the excitement at 1pm with Poptart, we did it all again at 4pm! Cassie said she heard some hollering outside so we quickly went out and found Toffee Twins in a mud patch in the barnyard. We quickly put them into a stall, scrub-a-dub-rubbing while we went.

Solar Cooking: Hard-Boiled Eggs

I got a new toy that I wanted to share with you.  We purchased a Global Sun Oven to try some free-energy cooking. You can bake, boil and steam with it and also dehydrate. It doesn’t matter what time of year it is, the Sun Oven is supposed to be able to get up to 400°, even in winter (It was 40° today).

My Bookstore Gets an Expansion!

After 10 years in business at this location, we are giving the Pennsylvania Curriculum Exchange some more room! The renovation should take about two weeks, though it will be broken up a bit because of the holiday. Then it will take me another week or two to put it all back together again and get it cleaned up.

Every bookcase but two is being relocated, so that is more than 25,000 books to slog around. We also plan to add more lights and a ceiling fan to help distribute the heat more evenly around the columns of bookcases.

The first thing we did was get a storage shed for behind the store. Since I am losing my store room for the expansion, I needed somewhere to store my “stuff”!
