Salt Marsh Moth

I found this pretty fella in my garden yesterday.

I just love his polka-dot back and zebra striped legs! I searched the internet to find him and it turns out his name is Estigmene Acrea or Salt Marsh Moth. Apparently it is a garden pest but I couldn’t quite see skwooshing this beautiful creature.

That’s a pretty one. Never seen one like that before. So fuzzy, too!

Looks almost as big as one of my banty chicks. Absolutely gorgeous! Thanks for sharing.

Those are striking legs! I wouldn’t squish it either. Although that feeling might change if there were a gazillion of them doing “harmful” things to all your hard work.

Well, you have to assume you will have such critters when you live in a salt marsh. Oh, but you don’t live anywhere NEAR a salt marsh. How ever did she find you? She is very pretty, but I would not let her loose again. You may regret it forever. Maybe you could make a comfy screened cage for her and let her live out her life without giving you a hundred million babies.

It is cute. The only strange thing I see around here all the time is Hummingbird bugs. We do see our fair share of Praying Mantis but we don’t consider them strange since we see so many of them.
